Texas Concealed Handgun License Classes and Application Packet

Texas Concealed Handgun License Classes are given every day depending on availability. We even offer night classes; weekend classes which are about 10 hours long. The Texas Concealed Handgun License Class is a one day 10-hour class and begins promptly at 8:00 AM.

If you have not ordered your Application Packet from the Texas Department of Public Safety, you may download and/or print the Request for Concealed Handgun Application card here. The Application Packet IS required, but not needed at the time you take the class.

You will NOT need the Application Packet to take the class. I will have the affidavits, fingerprint cards, and photo holders for you at the class. Your packet should arrive from the DPS in ten days to two weeks. You will be then be ready to mail everything back to the Texas Department of Public Safety Concealed Handgun Licensing Unit. If you have do have your Application Packet, bring it to class.

Texas Concealed Handgun License Classes

The Texas Concealed Handgun License Class is 10 hours long. This includes: notarizing your affidavits, taking your fingerprints on the DPS and FBI fingerprint cards, and classroom fee.

If you want to qualify with your handgun, bring your UNLOADED handgun and one box of ammunition to class. If you want to qualify with one of my handguns, I will furnish you a semi-automatic handgun for $30 (you must supply your own ammunition).

Who is Now Eligibile for Classes?

A person who is at least 18 years old but not yet 21 years old if the person is a member or veteran of the US armed forces, including members or veterans of the reserve or national guard. Cost from the state for applicants is

Alaska, arizona, arkansas, colorado, delaware, florida, georgia, idaho, indiana, kentucky, louisiana, michigan, mississippi, missouri, montana, new mexico, North Carolina, north Dakota, oklahoma, pennsylvania, south carolina, south dakota, tennessee, utah, virginia, wyoming

Note: Residents who live in any of the 50 states can now also get a concealed handgun license all they have to do is obtain a Texas ID card

Unilateral Agreements w/ States (People with Texas CHL cannot carry into these states, but residents from these states with their own license can come into Texas)

California, connecticut, iowa, maryland, massachusettes, nevada, new jersey, washington

Renewal of License

If a license holder wishes to renew the concealed handgun license he must take a continuing education proficiency course and obtain a proficiency certification not more than 6 months before applying for renewal. The fee for a renewed license that the state charges is $70. Fees are reduced for seniors and military personnel. State fees for senior citizens have been reduced from $70 - $35 dollars and a senior citizen is determined by 60 years of age or older.

HB 225 amends government code 411.183 (b) as follows. A renewed license expires on the license holders birthdate 5 years after the date of the expiration of the previous license. This act only applies to a license renewed on or after September 1, 2005.

Texas Concealed Handgun Recertification Classes and Application Packet

Texas Concealed Handgun Recertification Classes are held during the first four hours of the scheduled Texas Concealed Handgun License Class (from 9 AM to 12 Noon). The Texas Concealed Handgun Recertification Class is a four hour class and begins promptly at 9:00 AM. (Inquire about the private class discounts with 3 or more people.)

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will send you a package about five months before your license expires. The DPS requests that you return your completed application package to Austin, with your Certificate of Training Form, no later than 45 days BEFORE your concealed handgun license expires. You should receive receive your new Concealed Handgun License from the DPS before your current License expires. The Texas DPS now accepts the following methods of payment credit cards through their website, personal checks, cashiers checks and money orders.

This is a 4 hour class starting promptly at 9:00 AM. This includes notarizing your affidavits, taking your fingerprints on the FBI fingerprint card, and the classroom fee. (Inquire about the private class discounts with 5 or more people.)

If you want to qualify with your handgun, bring your UNLOADED handgun and one box of ammunition to class. If you want to qualify with one of my handguns, I will furnish you a semi-automatic handgun for $30 (you must supply your own ammunition).

Private Classes

These classes can be scheduled for anytime, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week!. You can come to the range or I will come to you, but the firearms testing has to be done at my range.

Basic Firearms Class and Tactical Shooting Class

A Basic Firearms Class and Tactical Shooting Classes are offered at your convenience. Bring your own gun with 200 rounds of ammo.(Inquire about the private class discounts with 3 or more people.)

A Tactical Shooting Class private classes can be scheduled at your convenience. This class can also be done at anytime. Bring your own gun with 300 rounds of ammo. . Both classes you can rent one of my guns or use your own. (Inquire about the private class discounts with 5 or more people.)
