Private Classes

Q: Are private classes available?

A: Yes, anytime of the day, 7 days a week

Concealed Handgun license application

Q: How do I get a concealed handgun license application?

A: You can pick up an application request card from any DPS office or gun and sporting good store. If not, you can always request one from me.

Cost of license

Q: How much will a concealed handgun license cost?

A: For most people - $140.00

Indigent people $70.00

Active and honorably retired peace officers $25.00

Elective felony prosecuting attorneys - Fee is waived

Carrying a handgun in another state

Q: If I am licensed in Texas, can I carry my concealed handgun in another state?

A: Your license doesn't allow you to carry a handgun in another state, unless that state recognizes a Texas license. To find out, contact that state or refer to my website.

Method of Payment

Q: What methods of payment does the Texas DPS accept?

A: All forms, Cashier's check and money orders are quickest. Personal checks are accepted, but may delay the processing of the application until the funds clear the bank.

Refund on application

Q: Can I get my money back if my application is not approved?

A: Fees are not-refundable. Please check to make sure you are eligible before you apply.

License arrival

Q: Once I have sent in my application, how soon can I expect my license?

A: Within 180 days. The department will notify you if there is a problem. If there is a problem, it could take more time.

License are good for 4 years inital and 5 years after 1st renewal

Q: How long are licenses good for?

A: 4 years and on your first renewal it increases to 5 years.

Under 21 years of age, only 20

Q: How old do you have to be to recieve a CHL?

A; You must be 21 years of age or older, unless you are active military then it is 18 or older.

Cost of fingerprints

Q: How do I get a concealed handgun license application fingerprints completed?

A: You can expect to pay anywhere from $20- $30 for fingerprints, unless of course you attend one of my classes then it is FREE.

No personal handgun needed for class

Q: Will I need to have a gun before I begin my training class?

A: NO, You do not have to have a weapon for training class you can rent one from me for $30.00 and you must provide 50 rounds of ammunition.

Carrying a concealed handgun after course completion

Q: Can I start carrying a concelaed handgun when I complete the class?

A: NO, You can not carry a concealed handgun until you have recieved your license in the mail from DPS.

Police officers disarming you

Q: Do police officers have the right to disarm me?

A: YES, YES, YES anytime a police officer wants to disarm you.
